Azuretti Visit
As many non-profit organizations know very well, providing needed resources to alleviate specific problems in third-world countries is hardly a guarantee to solving them. Promoting local ownership of the effort is key to ensuring sustainability and, hence, success. Four Small Ivory Coast Villages Show Appreciation for ICMRT Nets
Elementary school children in their uniforms are lined up on both sides of the main dirt road leading to Azuretti, clapping their hands and chanting something I can't quite make out. The scenes I am watching on a video-CD are reminiscent of images of my own school days when foreign heads of state were visiting the Ivory Coast. Azuretti is a fishing village of about 1,800 people, 35 miles east of Abidjan, the capital city of Ivory Coast. read more...
 
Race Against Malaria in Ivory Coast!
I chose to ride in the 212 miles (340 km) 2008 Group Health Seattle to Portland (STP) Bicycle Classic on July 12-13, 2008 to raise money for the purchase of mosquito nets to distribute free of charge in small Ivory Coast villages. Why am doing this? Ivory Coast has seriously been set back by a devastating civil war in 2002 that left its health care program in dire need of help.  read more...
 
April 25th is World Malaria Day
April 25th is World Malaria Day; a day set aside by the World Health Organization to offer “an opportunity for malaria-free countries to learn about the devastating consequences of the disease and for new donors to join a global partnership against malaria.” It's fitting that this month 5,000 long lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets (LLINs) purchased by ICMRT are being released by the port authority in Ivory Coast for free distribution to pregnant women and children under 5 years of age. read more...
